In an effort to make a difference in the lives of our people who deserve it most, Hydraform ya Batho was approached by PC Builders to form a threeway partnership with MCCS aimed at rebuilding a new home for ‘Gogo’, Josephine Bergman in Nigel.

The Nigel town began as a small gold mining town in the 1800. It is situated southeast of Johannesburg in the Gauteng Province, South Africa . The town is on the edge of the area known as the East Rand. Nigel is industrial and has kept its authentic look over the years.

In a very unfortunate event in the chills of winter in 2019, Josephine Bergman’s shack caught fire, leaving her completely distraught. She moved back to her rural home in KwaZulu Natal to recover emotionally from this ordeal.

Hydraform Ya Batho, MCCS together with PC Builders got together to rebuild this home as a gift to Gogo Bergman. It goes without saying – it is in the heart of Hydraform Ya Batho to bring solutions and seize opportunities which help to change the lives of our communities.

We scheduled a site visit, followed by a formal project management team meeting. We began our first phase in the autumn of 2019 by cleaning the site and clearing it for block production. For this project we used our M7M1 super Interlocking Hydraform machine for its 2200 block production daily. Interlocking block production was done on site with a keen team from MCCS, PC Builders and Hydraform Ya Batho.

Before The Project

Inspite of the December construction holiday season as well as the global pandemic that had implications on the completion and registration of the house -the spirit of togetherness and working in kindness prevailed in this project. The challenges that opposed this project did not hinder the success.

The Nigel home launch took place in the winter of 2020 – a perfect time for a warm and welcoming home. This very endeavour was highly appreciated by the Ekurhuleni municipal district MMC Lesiba Mpya, calling it, “A generous gesture with an impeccable quality, a home for many generations to come.”

This project was a reflection of the importance of partnership and the basic key characteristics fundamental in project management:

Initiation phase – establish practicality and project objective

Planning: where we weigh all components needed for execution

Execution: the beginning of on site

Monitoring and controlling the process

Closer and hand over

The Hydraform interlocking block has excellent thermal properties, when the temperature is cold outside the block will keep the room temperature in the house warm. On days when the weather is hot outside the block inside the house will keep the interior cool, because of the thermal insulation. Therefore the ambient temperature is progressive.

This Mandela day we celebrate business opportunities such as this home that allows for the Hydraform fast building and cost effective technology to flourish in changing the lives of beneficiaries. Happy Mandela day!
