Hydraform International extends their sophisticated urban office building by Carol Knoll - Urban Green File August 2003
In this piece, a new extension to the Hydraform building in Boksburg, Johannesburg, is positioned as demonstrative of 'the kind of sophisticated urban office building' that can be created using dry stacked, inter locking earth cement blocks. The extension is also lauded as able to answer customers' questions: yes, dry-stacked bricks are load-bearing; they can be built to double-storey height; they can carry a second floor of reinforced concrete; they can accommodate conventional doors and windows; and they can suit conventional roofing and flooring systems. The extension was also a testing ground for Hydraform's trainers.
